I’ve been asked this a couple of times this week so here is your answer… Sweating is a natural bodily function that helps regulate temperature, but can it effectively “sweat out” a cold? While sweating can make you feel temporarily relieved, it doesn’t directly eliminate the cold virus. Colds are caused by viruses, not excessive toxins, and the body’s immune system is the primary defence.
However, engaging in activities that induce sweating, such as exercise or using a sauna, may offer some benefits. Exercise can boost circulation and stimulate the immune system, potentially aiding in the recovery process. Additionally, the increased body temperature from sweating might create an environment less favourable for the virus however it becomes critical to stay well hydrated as a cold often dehydrates you anyway.
Ultimately when recovering from a virus, remember your body is already fighting. By exercising, you are putting your poor body under yet more stress. Ultimately, sweating won’t cure a cold, rest is likely the better option alongside good hydration and a healthy diet to support your immune function. I hope those of you suffering at the moment feel better very soon!
