Why Processed Foods are Problematic

Processed foods have become a staple in modern diets, but they come with a host of issues that can adversely affect our health. One major issue is their high levels of added sugars, salt, and unhealthy fats, which contribute to various health problems such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Additionally, processing often strips away natural nutrients and fibre, leaving behind empty calories devoid of nutritional value.


Furthermore, many processed foods contain artificial additives, preservatives, and flavourings, which have been linked to adverse health effects, including allergies and hyperactivity in children. The convenience of processed foods can lead to overconsumption and a reliance on quick, unhealthy meals, displacing more nutritious options like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.


Overall, the reliance on processed foods in our diets poses a significant challenge to public health, necessitating a shift towards whole, minimally processed foods to promote better health and well-being.
