Caffeine intake on lifting performance

4th June 2023

This was a study that investigated acute caffeine intake before lifting in participants with a mild daily caffeine consumption.

Half their participants were given a caffeine dose (6mg/kg of bodyweight – similar to 4 cups of coffee) 60mins before a 5×5 bench press workout and the other half were given a placebo (no caffeine) before the session.

Their results showed caffeine improved overall power output and bar speed on the bench press across the 5 sets. The researchers also reported that caffeine appeared to reduce overall fatigue compared to the placebo group.
