Electrolytes are minerals, including sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium, that carry an electric charge and are essential for various bodily functions. They play a crucial role in maintaining fluid balance, muscle contraction, and nerve function. Athletes and exercisers use electrolytes to prevent dehydration and maintain optimal performance during physical activities.

During intense exercise, the body loses electrolytes through sweat, leading to an imbalance that can cause muscle cramps, fatigue, and decreased performance. Supplementing with electrolytes helps to replenish these essential minerals, ensuring proper hydration and allowing muscles to function efficiently.

Electrolytes also help regulate blood pressure and pH levels, supporting cardiovascular health. For endurance athletes, maintaining electrolyte balance is critical to prevent hyponatremia, a condition caused by low sodium levels in the blood. By incorporating electrolyte supplements or sports drinks, athletes can sustain energy levels, enhance endurance, and recover more effectively from strenuous workouts.
