Welcome to my blog, Sport Mentality. This blog will cover loads of topics from the world of sport and exercise psychology as well as dipping into a few other relevant areas of sport science. I'll explain theories and concepts to improve your understanding of psychological fact and theory, and provide advice and strategies you can apply to your own mental game.
These articles are written with amateur sports people in mind, but they will also be very handy for parents, fitness enthusiasts and anyone else with an interest in the mental side of training and performance.

About me
This blog will reflect my background - I trained and worked for many years in sport and exercise science - but my goal is to break down the technical stuff, and write practical and useful articles containing loads of techniques and strategies that you can use in your training and performances.
Subjects such as confidence, motivation, consistency, resilience, learning, decision-making, dealing with distractions, pressure and stress are all going to feature. If there is anything else you'd like me to discuss, just let me know!
Training is physical, but performing is almost entirely mental!
A few facts about me...
I'm officially 'Dr Charlotte Miles' but I go by Lottie.
I live in Westward Ho!, North Devon with my Newfoundland, Gracie.
I have a PhD in Sport & Exercise Science, an Associate Fellowship in the Higher Education Academy and a few coaching qualifications too.
I love studying, training, competing in and watching all sport!
I love CrossFit (and Olympic Lifting) and I also enjoy playing tennis and cricket.
I used to be a decent hockey player before a major injury forced me to quit the sport.
I enjoy taking photographs, particularly of athletes and dogs.
I've studied, researched, taught and published papers for many years in sport psychology.
Which brings me back to this blog...
I left the academic world in 2015 to start a new business venture with my family, but I've never lost my passion for performance science and psychology. I find myself reading books and studying research around the subject as much as ever.
I've been planning to write a blog about sport and exercise psychology for a while now, and I feel like I am finally in a place where I can look back on my failures and successes, and pick out lessons I've learned to apply to my knowledge and learnings. This will be an evidence-based blog of articles, stories and ideas about training, performing and getting the most out of exercise and sport.
So, I hope you enjoy my collection of articles, stories and ideas about how to become a happier, healthier and more successful athlete!
